Product IntroductionIntroducing the Icy Dock ToughArmor MB991IK-B 2.5" SAS / SATA Mobile Rack solution for use in external 3.5" drive bays (Floppy bay). The main purpose is to provide a small form factor device built specifically for systems in a small real estate to work with, specifically for 2.5 SAS hard drives or SSDs. Because of the high performance and reliability factor of SAS drives, it is crucial for the storage solution to be just as sturdy as the drive being used. By using a rugged heavy duty metal construction, it is capable to withstand the harshest enterprise type environments. The drive is fully secured by our proven technologies such as, the Eagle-Hook lock system and metal 2-segment safeguard key. Our full metal EZ Slide Mini Tray allows interchangeability of data between multiple systems with other compatible ToughArmor products. Suggested applications in Medical & Military systems, Media servers, and IPCs, approved by Tier 1 companies.

With the rugged Full Metal design, the ToughArmor is perfect for industrial and medical devices that may require a flammability rating as the full metal material is considered to be already compliant with flammability requirements. So because of the high build quality and compatibility, it can be used various enterprise systems including: military and law enforcement deployment, as well as manufacturing conditions such as embedded control systems and factory automation systems.
The rugged full metal design also allows efficient heat dissipation transfer from the hard drives throughout the mobile rack. In addition, Multi-Flow Technology effectively routes air flow correctly for excellent passive cooling in key ventilation slots on the front, rear, top and bottom. Lastly, Anti-Vibration Technology and EMI Grounding are used to provide a stable environment for the hard drives or SSDs used to perform at its best.
Convenient Utility & AccessibilityThe front of the ToughArmor includes a status LED when the drive is powered on, off and accessed. Active Power Technology (APT) allows the status LED to be on only when a hard drive is inserted into the enclosure. For drive security, the eagle-hook lock system on the tray makes sure your hard drives will not eject when not needed. Additionally, the 2 segment key lock provides extra protection to theft of hard drives as well as safeguards any sensitive data.
The EZ Slide Mini trays make drive interchangeability and maintenance completely hassle free, in case of a hard drive failure. With a simple swap of the hard drive, your overall down time is greatly reduced especially if this occurs when it is time sensitive. The trays are also designed to accommodate 5 to 15mm height hard drive and SSD, creating a 2.5" hot swap bay for any standard SAS / SATA hard drives and SSDs. While the tray is not installed to the MB991IK-B, the Anti-Dust Flap feature helps prevent dust from entering into the mobile rack.
Make ToughArmor On-The-GO! With MB991U3-1SBTo access your data outside of your system or in a remote location, the ToughArmor MB991U3-1SB is the way to go about. The drive tray slot of MB991U3-1SB is compatible with a variety of ToughArmor drive trays including the ToughArmor MB991, MB992, MB994, MB996 and MB998 series. This allows existing ToughArmor users to access their internal drive externally without opening up the case. It is a great tool for an individual drive diagnostic test. If you need to do a safe data erase or just simply expending system storage capacity, just remove the tray from the internal ToughArmor unit and insert it in the MB991U3-1SB to perform individual tasks externally with USB 3.0 interface. Best of all, the MB991U3-1SB uses USB bus-powered and it does not require a power adapter to operate. Simply connect the USB cable to any system and you are ready to go.

*The drive mobile rack enclosure needs to have a customized front water-resistant panel added to pass the IEC 60529 (IPX5) certification. What should I do?
A: Remove the drive tray from the enclosure and reinsert the tray without putting excessive pressure on the metal mesh sheet in front of the tray. Excessive force on the front metal mesh sheet may bend the top and bottom metal spring, causing difficulties when inserting the drive tray. Therefore, please do not forcingly insert the drive tray when this happens as it may cause damage to the metal spring.
Please DO NOT put excessive pressure on the metal mesh sheet as shown Q: After installing a drive in the MB991IK-B, the LED indicator does not flash orange when accessing data but remains solid green. What could be the cause and what is the solution?
A: The MB991IK-B is designed according to the standard signal specifications for SSDs/HDDs and is compatible with the vast majority of drives on the market. However, differences in voltage settings for some specific drives may cause the LED indicator to remain solid green during data read/write operations. This situation will not affect the performance or lifespan of the hard drive, so please use it with confidence. If the hard drive reading indicator light is a necessary feature, consider using other brands and models of drives.
