ToughArmor MB411SPO-1BIntroducing the ToughArmor MB411SPO-1B, a full metal 2.5" SATA hard drive / SSD mobile rack designed to fit into a 12.7mm slimline optical disk drive bay (Slim ODD bay) that is available in All-In-One PCs and Desktop Computers. The MB411SPO-1B uses a full metal construction to ensure maximum device lifespan and is capable of withstanding the harshest environments. The EZ Slide Micro removable drive tray supports any standard 2.5" SATA hard drives and solid-state drives (SSD) between 5 to 9.5mm height and provides hot-swap capability for quick drive removal and easy drive maintenance. In addition, the MB411SPO-1B supports up to 6Gbps transfer speed, with a receiving connector rated for up to 10,000 drive insertions.
Utilizing its ruggedized design and hot-swap drive function, the MB411SPO-1B is a perfect storage device for those who need a robust and removable drive enclosure to store, transport, and protect their sensitive data such as government agencies, digital cinemas, and small business organizations.

The MB411SPO-1B lets you quickly add a hot-swappable 2.5" SATA HDD / SSD to any system with a slim optical drive bay such as All-In-One PCs, Rackmount Computers, Industrial PCs, Workstations, Desktop Computers, Embedded Control Systems, and Factory Automation Systems.
Removable 2.5” Drive DesignThe EZ Slide Micro removable drive tray supports hot-swap and makes drive maintenance completely hassle-free in the event of a drive failure, drive transport, and drive archive. With this tray, downtime from a swap of a hard drive is now significantly reduced.
The tray is built with robust solid metal frames that securely mount and protect 5mm to 9.5mm height 2.5" SATA HDD/SSD, creating a reliable 2.5" hot-swap bay for any standard slim optical disk drive bay. The EZ Slide Micro removable drive tray is also compatible with ToughArmor MB992SK-B and MB996SP-6SB, making drive interchangeability between systems as easy as 1-2-3.

However, when I connect the SSD directly to the motherboard/add-on card, I can access the SSD without a problem.
A: It may be the SATA signal decreasing when connecting multiple bridges at the same time and causing the issue. Using a higher quality or shorter cable may solve this problem. However, if the problem occurs after replacing the cable, it may be the SSD/HDD you are using requires 12V power, which is not supported by MB411SPO-1B. The MB411SPO-1B is using the Slimline SATA power that does not carry the 12V power. Therefore, please avoid choosing the SSD/HDD that requires 12V power.

Q: Which laptops are incompatible?
A: Due to specific features of laptop design, there are certain models of laptops that are not compatible with the MB411 and MB511 series. One stems from the physical form factor and the other stems from the pinout design of the optical drive bay connector. Regarding the pinout design, there are 4 different pinout design currently in use, referred as A, B, C, D modes. The MB411 and MB511 series uses the C mode of pinout.

Not being on the list of incompatible laptops does not guarantee functionality of the MB411 and MB511 series in the laptop. It is best to contact the manufacturer of the laptop to determine optical drive bay pinout design.
